/bin/tar: Removing leading `/' from member names

What does this mean?

I used this:
/bin/tar -zcf /home/user/backup_www.tar.gz /var/www/html

but changed everything to my directories and for some reason, I got this error:

/bin/tar: Removing leading `/' from member names

Does this mean my backup was unsuccessful?

One easy way to tell is to see if your tar.gz file got created and if it contains data.

Gee that's really helpful. I mean that answer helped me so much thanks man.

Well, no one can know if it worked except for you doing that. We can say "sure it worked" but if the data is not there then it obviously didnt work.

I dont know what you want from us, but I am getting the impression you want assurances we cant provide.
