Uh,

/etc/cron.daily/00webalizer:

Error: Skipping oversized log record
Error: Skipping oversized log record
Error: Skipping oversized log record
/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:

error: stat of /var/log/ppp/connect-errors failed: No such file or directory

Whats that? Thank you.

The webalizer oversized record notification means that it has skipped some really ugly long loglines ... probably caused by some 'worms / viruses' travelling across the net.

No worries .. it's safe and no problem.

I had the same error this morning too. First time I've seen it.

Yeah, you re right. I had a look to the log-file. See what I could find:

This was only 1 line. It comes from a saudi-arabian
internet- provider. Was Bin Laden visiting me? ;-)

But without a joke, it produces a lot of traffic and steals
resources of the Plesk-Server. I don't like this. Well, I
know, you cannot avoid worms and viruses via internet, but I
can remember, that there is a way to lock such worms or that
there is a way to avoid such manipulation of log-files.
Wasn't anything what you have to write in a htaccess-file?
Or a /conf/vhost.conf with a special entry? Hmm, cannot
remember again so very well, how this problem can be solved.
Can you please give me a hint?

In the meanwhile, I could find another one. But here more details:

So, thats not nice by them especially that Mr. Hudspeth
does not have an email-adress registered there at ARIN.

Checking out Cloverdale Unified School District, cite:

"....Cloverdale Unified School District serves 1570 students in grades K-12 at two elementary schools, one comprehensive high school and a continuation high school. Approximately 36% of the students are Hispanic and 63% Caucasian, incorporating all socioeconomic levels. The District also offers a cooperative preschool program and an Even Start Program; a Head Start Program is housed in the District as well.

Our District is experiencing an exciting time. We are examining new ways to meet students’ needs. These include:

Modified school calendar
Online AP classes
Full-day kindergarten
Intercession academic interventions
Closed lunch campus at the high school
Sharing services with other nearby districts

Cloverdale Unified School District is large enough to offer a strong academic curriculum with choices for your child, and small enough to care about each individual student...."

I think, these scriptkiddies need a dissuasion, eh? ;-)
If they try to use the command /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/fp30reg.dll
vs the Plesk-Server, that's a clear attack. How can this happen,
that they go online with a machine full of worms and viruses?
Don't they have an antivirus-software running there?

Welcome to the internet ;)

I'd like to know what that saudi IP was so I can block it in my iptables (the whole damn subnet)!

School districts PCs quite often become infected from one minute to the next, it's probably not an actual student at the school (could be but not likely).

Even under the best circumstances, computer labs in schools are very difficult to keep clean and running properly.

Staff members rarely have much time to do maintenance, and districts where they outsource the maintenance to consultant/service firms often don't pay their bills on time (usually 90-120 days late on average), so they end up getting poor quality service.

That's why I gave up on servicing 2 districts.

Personally, I'm going to add their range to my block list since I don't forsee needing to receive any emails from Cloverdale schools, nor would any of my clients. And if they do, then too bad..... <maniacal laughter> afterall, I have to protect my clients from the evil which lurks since they can't do it themselves.....hahahahhah <more maniacal laughter>

Edit: I guess I was wrong about sleepy little Cloverdale...
