I did notice that the server had very high load at one point today but seems to have subsided.

There are about 40-50 threads owned by "popuser" that look like this:

any ideas? I haven't touched the server in a week so I have no idea what would cause this...

checking the maillog, I see this which I don't quite know what it means:
Code:
websrv relaylock: /var/qmail/bin/relaylock: mail from 87.239.29.81:2448 (unregister081029239087.c29.msk.pl)

After restarting qmail and pop services through Plesk, I checked the maillog and found entries like this:
Code:
Sep 28 13:36:05 websrv qmail: 1159468565.107447 starting delivery 66: msg 369397 to remote [email][email protected][/email]

Anyone seen problems like this before?
I seem to be able to send mail but not receive it (although when I looked over my maillog I did notice a message that I should have received coming in but I have yet to get it) The pattern of the maillog is now like this:
Code:
Sep 28 14:17:18 websrv qmail: 1159471038.085835 new msg 434596
Sep 28 14:17:18 websrv qmail: 1159471038.086032 info msg 434596: bytes 1533 from <[email protected]> qp 24831 uid 2020
Sep 28 14:17:31 websrv relaylock: /var/qmail/bin/relaylock: mail from 218.14.113.209:4769 (not defined)
Sep 28 14:17:34 websrv qmail: 1159471054.364963 new msg 434598
Sep 28 14:17:34 websrv qmail: 1159471054.365057 info msg 434598: bytes 1355 from <[email protected]> qp 24838 uid 2020
seems to be of the pattern ... new msg... info ... relaylock

Same problem, but only in one server all others work OK.

Error is only sending mails to servers in others datacenters.

It seems a DNS problem that we are investigating….

What is your datacenter?

My problem is solved now.

Origin are a blocked IP from a datacenter error.

Check your IP in spam list, this is one of reason for this error.
Test to restart qmail

Ih your IP are clean and problem persist after restar qmail open a support ticket in your datacenter.

Where is the "Spam List".. is this the blacklist tab in the mail controls in Plesk? If so, mine is empty.

I was sure the problem was a DNS issue because this machine has always had a very strange DNS setup (I didn't configure it, nor do I understand it).

But I did uncheck "Authenticate POP3" in Plesk control panel and mail started to trickle in. Its still coming in slowly but I am receiving mail. Sending mail is hit or miss, sometimes it works, sometimes I get the error:
Code:
The server response was: sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)
Not sure what that is all about. I did find a rcpthosts file and all the domains on the server are listed.

To test your IP use http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup.lasso

To test DNS use http://www.dnsreport.com/

Authenticate POP3 must be checked.
