Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade to PHP5 on my Plesk 8.1.1 server (on CentOS v4.4 x86_64)::

Summary: The PHP HTML-embedded scripting language. (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor)

Description:
PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. PHP attempts to make it
easy for developers to write dynamically generated webpages. PHP also
offers built-in database integration for several commercial and
non-commercial database management systems, so writing a
database-enabled webpage with PHP is fairly simple. The most common
use of PHP coding is probably as a replacement for CGI scripts. The
mod_php module enables the Apache Web server to understand and process
the embedded PHP language in Web pages.

The php package contains the module which adds support for the PHP

Error: Missing Dependency: php = 4.3.9-3.22.4 is needed by package php-pear

... and here is where I'm currently stuck. My understanding was that PHP v4.3.9-3.22.4 was the version that got installed with the server (??), so I'm not quite sure what's going on here, or how to get around this problem :(

If I Removing php-pear (yum remove php-pear), I get prompted with the following:

If anyone would have any suggestions on how I might get past this php-pear issue (without uninstalling it), I'd be HUUUUGELY appreciative! :)

I've been tearing my hear out trying to get past this problem for a few days now.

Many Thanks,
Sia

have you tried, yum update php not yum install php?

Also, you can uninstall php-pear by running rpm -e php-pear

Hi poke,

I just tried rpm -e php-pear (at your recommendation). I got the following:

error: Failed dependencies
php-pear is needed by (installed) php-4.3.9-3.22.4.x86_64

(ironically, the exact same php library it's saying it can't find).

yum update php gives me the same error as install :(

Thanks for replying btw. I'm happy to try any other ideas you may have, as this is a new hosting environment I'm trying to setup, and done as a Virtual Machine, so I can roll back changes easily enough.

Regards,
Sia

Hi Poke,

I think I worked it out (with your help that is)... I did the following:

rpm -e --nodeps php-pear
yum update php mysql --enablerepo=centosplus

~insert muffled sqeals of joy here, as all installs perfectly~

wget http://ftp.monash.edu.au/pub/linux/CentOS/4.4/updates/x86_64/RPMS/php-pear-4.3.9-3.22.4.x86_64.rpm
rpm -Uhv --nodeps php-pear-4.3.9-3.22.4.x86_64.rpm

rpm -q php-pear
php-pear-4.3.9-3.22.4

rpm -q php
php-5.1.6-3.el4s1.5

rpm -q mysql
mysql-5.0.27-1.el4.centos

Thanks SO much for your help! You're an absolute legend! :D

Kind regards,
Sia
