    Good day, Andrew Andriatis:

While we need to set up a test environment in order to go through the installation and experience of MSP, do you mind answering some questions?

    * Some of our H-Sphere provider customers are on a single physical server where they have the various H-Sphere logical services of control panel service, mysql service, Apache web service, DNS 1 service, DNS 2 service, and the email service installed.

Does MSP require the management node to be on its own node?

Can multiple logical services (i.e. Apache, mysql, etc.) be installed on the same physical node?

    * How will DNS servers be handled? Can they be put on their own nodes?

    * How will mySQL be handled? Can mysql be put on its own node?

What version of mySQL will be supported?

    * When you get to Windows and IIS, will you support the following?

    - Windows 2003 Server
    - Cold Fusion ____ (what versions?)
    - MS SQL ____ (what versions?)

    * For Apache, are you supporting Apache 1 and Apache 2?

There are a lot of H-Sphere providers still on Apache 1 due to support for MS FrontPage.

If yes, on Apache 1, will you provide MS FrontPage (even if it is not directly supported for trouble shooting)?

For Unix, what versions of PHP will you be supporting / providing?

What version of mod_security will be supported?

    * What can you tell me about the billing features?

    * Can MSP host multiple domains per account?

    * Does MSP allow for setting up a DNS only hosting plan? a mySQL only hosting plan? an email only hosting plan?

    * What payment gateways will the billing system support?

    * Will the billing system support billing monthly? billing quarterly? billing yearly?

    * Does the hosting plans allow for providing discounts based on whether they pay yearly over quarterly? paying quarterly over monthly?

    * What types of quality assurance is being done to assure H-Sphere providers they will not lose features by migrating to MSP?

Thank you, Andrew Andriatis, for your time and effort.

    Some clarifications

    Hi, Peter

    1. The MSP management node can also run hosting services Apache, MySQL, DNS, mail. You will see this configuration in the preview. However, for security reasons, I would recommend separating them into virtual machines, even staying on the same physical node. You can use Parallels technologies, or any other virtualization product.
    2. DNS servers can be put on their own nodes. The same is with MySQL. This wont be demonstrated in the first preview, but going forward, well make this configuration to be straightforward.
    3. Do you need any specific version of MySQL? For CentOS we always package the latest MySQL version. For other OS-s we install from native OS repositories, dont package ourselves.
    4. We are not going to support outdated OSs or software components, especially those that were EOL-ed by their vendors already. In general, since Plesk plays the role of hosting panel in MSP, please refer to the release notes for the 3rd party components compatibility:

    http://download1.parallels.com/Ples...-plesk-panel-10.3.1-for-windows-based-os.html
    http://download1.parallels.com/Ples...ls-plesk-panel-10.3.1-for-linux-based-os.html

    5. Talking about migration from H-Sphere specifically, we are currently considering variants of in-place migration, where we will be able to take control over existing H-Sphere service nodes without reinstalling them or changing software on them.
    6. We are considering DNS only, DB only, mail only hosting plans.
    7. A single account will be able to subscribe for multiple domains.
    8. Billing in MSP is implemented by Parallels Customer & Business Manager. See the information here:
    http://download1.parallels.com/Ples...k-10-business-manager-administrator-guide.pdf

    9. I have to contact our billing guys to answer your questions about billing features. Ill get back to you later with them.

    Regards,
    Andrey

    Billing aspects

    Hi,
Here is an update on your billing questions:

    1. The full list of gateways supported by CBM is in attached file.
As top-used payment gateways I can define:
    a. USA/Canada Authorise.NET, BluePay, PayPal
    b. EMEA WireCard, PayPal, WorldPay, SagePay
    c. APAC eWay

    2. CBM can support any arbitrary billing cycle admin can create any cycle with second precision in addition to default ones.
You can find the list of default cycles in CBM > All Settings > Billing Cycles. This list definitely includes 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years cycles.

    3. CBM has feature Cycle discount it can be found in CBM > Discounts and Promotions > Discounts
Admin will need to define cycles and standard prices in service plans.
Then he can create a discount to reduce, for example, prices for long cycles against the prices for short cycles.

For example, hosting plan has prices $10 for month / $60 for 6 months / $120 for year
Discount 0% for month / 5% for 6 months / 10% for year can be created.
Effective prices shown in store will be $10 for month / $60 $57 for 6 months / $120 $108 for year

    Good day, Andrew Andriatis:

    Thank you for your answers.

For mySQL, the latest is fine.

For PHP, will you be supported PHP 5.3.x or PHP 5.2.x?

In terms of getting the most H-Sphere providers to convert over, their thought processes will most likely be if they have what their paying customers need in H-Sphere AND MSP doesn't offer it, why lose paying customers by switching to MSP?

As such, they will require Apache 1.3.x and Microsoft FrontPage extensions (even if unsupported) in order to keep their paying customers.

For Parallels to get the most conversions to MSP, would you be able to allow H-Sphere providers to have nodes that offer Apache 1 as well as Apache 2? And for the Apache 1 nodes to offer Microsoft FrontPage extensions?

    ###

On "Talking about migration from H-Sphere specifically, we are currently considering variants of in-place migration, where we will be able to take control over existing H-Sphere service nodes without reinstalling them or changing software on them."

This sounds extremely interesting and exciting. What operating systems and versions would be supported?

What tools would be available for a roll back if there are problems?

"We are considering DNS only, DB only, mail only hosting plans."

Yes please. I cannot speak for the hosting providers we support (as we are often not asked to help with their plans), but we do offer full services (web, email, dns, etc.), dns only, db only, and mail only packages.

I'm going to review the various links and files you provided.

Thank you, Andrew Andriatis, so much for your time and effort.

    Hi, Peter,
We understand the needs of avoiding customers churn and are thinking in this direction. Cannot provide the details yet.
As for PHP versions, do you need different versions to be supported on the same service node, or these could be just different nodes configurations?

Currently in Hsphere you can switch PHP version per Vhost (PHP5 and PHP4 in CGI mode)
In addition there is the option of one PHP version as mod_php per Node (PHP5 in our case)
    So basically a user can choose between CGI-MODE PHP5, PHP4 and MOD_PHP5.

So if you maybe could offer the options of CGI_MODE PHP5.2, 5.3 as well as MOD_PHP5.3 that would be great.

Yes, we are considering different PHP version to be available in the production release.
