Basic Pleskian
Hi,

Please tell me which Windows Options work best with Plesk 9 for Windows:

Please show these options:
* Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2/R2 Web Edition
* Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2/R2 Standard Edition
* Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2/R2 Enterprise Edition
* Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2/R2 Datacenter Edition
* Windows Server 2008 RC1 Enterprise Edition
* Windows Server 2008 RC1 Datacenter Edition
* Windows Server 2008 RC1 Standard Edition
* Windows 2008 Server Enterprise Edition
* Windows 2008 Server Standard Edition
* Windows 2008 Server Datacenter Edition
* Windows 2008 Server Web Edition

Is Windows 2008 Enterprise the same as Windows 2008 Server Enterprise and can we use Windows 2008 Enterprise without any problems?

Thanks,

I have tried it on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition R2 and it works great

* Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2/R2 Web Edition
* Windows 2008 Server Web Edition

Stay away from Web Edition, it is ****. I havent personally tested the 08 version, but it cant have SQL installed (08 you can at least - the sql web edition version only) and it had some site, cpu, memory limitations that made it very unrealistic for a hosting company to use. I understand based on a presentation MS made to me that 08 is supposed to be better, but I would avoid it still, it may go away in the next version since the license cost isnt terribly lower and you loose a lot of functionality.

* Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2/R2 Datacenter Edition
* Windows 2008 Server Datacenter Edition
* Windows Server 2008 RC1 Datacenter Edition
Datacenter edition is an overkill for Plesk, you dont need it.

* Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2/R2 Standard Edition
* Windows 2003 Server SP1/SP2/R2 Enterprise Edition
* Windows Server 2008 RC1 Enterprise Edition
* Windows Server 2008 RC1 Standard Edition
* Windows 2008 Server Enterprise Edition
* Windows 2008 Server Standard Edition

Any of these will work, but the standard edition will probably be the cheapest option and provide the same features that you would need to run plesk.

Thanks for the feedback.

We'll try Windows 2008 Enterprise.
Do we need to install MSSQL 2005 before or after Plesk 9 installation (the Plesk notes are slightly confusing)?

Thanks,
