Load Moment Indicator (LMI):A Load Moment Indicator (LMI) is a device used in crane operations to monitor the load moment, which is the product of the load weight and the distance from the crane's center of rotation. The LMI system measures this load moment in real-time and compares it to predetermined safe operating limits. If the load moment approaches or exceeds these limits, the LMI system triggers alarms or alerts to warn the operator, helping to prevent overloading and maintain crane stability.
Safe Load Indicator (SLI):A Safe Load Indicator (SLI) is a safety device installed on cranes to monitor and display the load weight being lifted. The SLI system measures the load weight using sensors and transducers and compares it to the crane's safe working load limit. If the load weight exceeds the safe limit, the SLI system activates alarms or alerts to warn the operator, preventing overloading and potential accidents.
Automatic Safe Load Indicator: An Automatic Safe Load Indicator is an advanced version of the standard SLI system that includes automated features for load monitoring and control. In addition to displaying load weight and triggering alarms, an Automatic SLI can also automatically adjust crane operations to maintain safe working conditions. For example, it can limit hoist speed or boom movement to prevent overloading, enhancing safety and efficiency in crane operations.

Working:
  1. Load Measurement: The SLI or LMI system measures the load weight using sensors or transducers installed on the crane's lifting mechanism.
  2. Load Moment Calculation: For LMI systems, the load weight is multiplied by the distance from the crane's center of rotation to calculate the load moment.
  3. Comparison to Safe Limits: The measured load weight or load moment is compared to predetermined safe operating limits programmed into the SLI or LMI system.
  4. Alarm Activation: If the load weight or load moment approaches or exceeds the safe limits, the SLI or LMI system activates alarms or alerts to warn the operator.
  5. Operator Response: Upon receiving the alarm, the operator can take appropriate action, such as reducing the load weight, adjusting the crane's position, or stopping crane operations to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
  6. Automatic Features (for Automatic SLI): In some cases, Automatic SLI systems can automatically adjust crane operations, such as limiting hoist speed or boom movement, to maintain safe working conditions without manual intervention from the operator.
