Just use ipset instead of iptables or whatever, as ipset works better for complete IP-ranges.

This looks nice and I would like to use it, but I get these errors
./fail2ban_subnets.sh: 19: Syntax error: "(" unexpected (expecting "}")

I can't replicate the error your encountering when executing the script. Perhaps went wrong when you copy and pasted the script? Best suggestion I have would be to re-create the script again on your server.
