The article says to comment the string so since you don't have it in your config files you don't need to comment it.

According to information from devs, they plan to publish new versions in a week or two for 17.8 and 17.9. If you're running 17.5 or 17.0 there could be delay of 2 or 3 days after that.
I'd do backup and then run mysql_upgrade just as warnings suggest. Similar issue: MySQL :: InnoDB: Table mysql/innodb_index_stats has length mismatch in the column name table_name

For the 17.8 there is no workaround however you can wait for 17.9.
