I've seen this message in case a new _major_ version of a package is available (for example from a third party repo) and you are running 'apt-get upgrade'. If you _really_ want to install the new version, you can run 'apt-get dist-upgrade'. Maybe you have to run 'mysql_upgrade' afterwards.

I would suggest to watch live what exactly happens when emails arrive from the specific external domain. E.g. tail -f /var/log/maillog | grep %external_domain% There must be a difference.

As last resort, try to repair your installation: /usr/local/psa/bootstrapper/pp12.0.18-bootstrapper/bootstrapper.sh repair If that doesn't help, you should think about a support-ticket.

Maybe your last update went wrong - you could try to reinstall the microupdates. /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/autoinstaller --select-release-current --reinstall-patch --install-component base If that does not help, you could try to let plesk generate new semaphore files: service psa stop cd...

You have to install the extension in the context of the target php version. Have a look at this post - you can simply adjust the script for your needs or run the corresponding parts manually.

When I look at my phpinfo() when using the php packages provided by Plesk, mbstring is available and enabled (CentOS 7, Plesk v12.0.18 MU50).
