Resolved alias and external dns

New Pleskian
Hello.. we have plesk managing a webserver using godaddy as the dns. we have godaddy as A record to the server IP

the DNS is download.newdomain, com and it is working great.
however we want use an alias download.olddomain.com to point to the same page.. we tried an A record to the server IP and Cname to the domain. Both results in the default generic plesk login page. Is there something we are missing? any direction would be greatly appreciated.. TIA

I was able to find these 2 articles but they dont seem to resolve the issue

both dns records point to the same IP

tried with both 301 enabled and disabled.... browsing to the alias domain goes to a default plesk page

Did you add download.olddomain.com as an alias to download.newdomain.com in Plesk?

yes thats what i forgot to mention.... we added the alias download.olddomain.com to point to download.newdomain.com in plesk after successfully creating download.newdomain.com.

How exactly did you point download.olddomain.com to download.newdomain.com in Plesk? Can you add a screenshot (blur or cover any sensitive info)?

we tried a CNAME record at olddomain.com. download to download.newdomain.com. that didnt work so we deleted it
We then tried an A record at olddomain.com download pointing to the plesk server IP.

This is getting confusing. I know you've tried both a CNAME and A record. You wrote that in your opening post. Both should work. Thats not your issue. What I want to know is did you or did not added download.olddomain.com as an alias to download.newdomain.com in Plesk?

If you have not added download.olddomain.com as an alias to download.newdomain.com then the webserver will never know were to send the request to. Hence you'll get served with the default generic plesk page.

yes thats how we created the alias... we created download.olddomain.com as an alias to download.newdomain.com in Plesk.
This is under the "Domains" interface , clicked "Add Domain Alias"

It looks similiar to what you have pictured except the "Alias for download.olddomain.com" says "Alias for download.newdomain.com"

and this is not working. it goes to the plesk default page. Sorry for the confusion.

Whats weird tho is when you click on the alias entry ... theres a small preview window. it shows what the expected page should be which is what download.newdomain.com is.

Ok, thank you for confirming you've added download.olddomain.com as an alias. Just wanted to make it was setup correctly.

That's interesting. What happens when you use a online website preview tool (like this one for example) to look at your alias domain?

Is the "web" option enabled for the domain alias? (It should be enabled by default)
Any specific Apache or Nginx configuration for the domain?

Hello , we figured it out.... for some reason in the primary domain under hosting settings the preferred domain was set... we changed it to none and the alias is working now. Thank you @Rasp for your help and confirming that we were at least on the right track configuring the alias.
