Can't send mail using mailenable

As best as I can figure it there is something up with my DNS info, when I run the mail enable utility local dns resolution test fails, and sure enough if I try to ping my domain name from the actual server it doesn't get a response, but if i ping it form my workstation it looks it up just fine. I tried to take a shortcut and edit the hosts file, and while that worked for ping it didn't change anything in the mailenable dns resolution test.

any help would be appreciated
