Dovecot Sieve filter "discarded vacation reply to <>"

Rolf

New Pleskian
Maybe someone can help.
I have set up a vacation filter in Horde, but only in once in a while it really returns a vacation message, depending on who is sending an email. In most cases, the message arrives without triggering a response.

The messagelog shows two scenarios, one for an successful vacation response and one for emails that fail to trigger a response.
Sucessful event:
Oct 9 10:48:24 server dovecot: service=lda, user=[email protected], ip=[]. sieve: msgid=<[email protected]>: sent vacation response to <[email protected]>
and then
Oct 9 10:48:24 server qmail: 1412844504.308454 starting delivery 21782: msg 33566019 to remote [email protected]
then the message is stored into the users inbox.

Unsuccessful event:
Oct 9 10:55:39 server dovecot: service=lda, user=[email protected], ip=[]. sieve: msgid=<trinity-90b5e87d-183b-49b8-8e3e-d2f98b96df3e-1412844932925@uvw-com>: discarded vacation reply to <>
then the message is stored into the users inbox.

The actual version of Plesk (v12.0.18) on Centos 6.5 with Dovecot & Qmail is beeing used.

Thanks a lot for any hint.

Just an update. It seemed, that only emails containing a Return-To address would earn a reply. Unfortunately m tests showed... this is not the case.

Alex: thank you for the hint. I will change to Postfix and then post the result here.

Would you expect any side effects???
Am just asking, as changing the format of arriving emails would effect the way our users work.
We need the "Delivered-To:" header information to look the same as with Qmail.
It this expected to change?

Very best regards

-Rolf

Rolf,

From top of my head, "Delivered-To:" header should not be changed. The biggest side effect after switching from qmail to postfix is authentication: Qmail mailusers' short names (userA@) are not supported by Postfix:

http://download1.parallels.com/Plesk/PPP9/plesk-9.2.3-for-rpm-based-os.html
Postfix mail server requires authorization with full mail account names like '[email protected]', as opposed to short names like 'user' allowed by Qmail. Upon switching from Qmail to Postfix the authorization mode will change accordingly, and all mail clients configured to authorize using short names will not be able to send or receive mail through your mail server.

Hello Alexey,
the switch to Postfix made the vacation filter work.
Probably a good idea to document the need to upgrade both courier + qmail to dovecot + postfix in order to make sieve work perfectly.
Thank you for pointing to the right direction.
Best regards
-Rolf
