which PHP - version you use on your server, is completely your very own choice and depends on your vendor and the used repositories/sources. Plesk isn't shipped with PHP, it works with the PHP version that you install ( Plesk requires at least version 5.3 ) .

I suppose, you would like to ask, how you can install/upgrade PHP version 5.4 ? Please include your operating system, to get some suggestions, because CentOS and Ubuntu for example have different commands to achieve your goal.
