Migration from 7.0.3 to 8.1

Hi, i am having major issues here, and Plesk and Godaddy have really not been much help.

I have a dedicated server from Godaddy. It has 300+ domain names hosted on it using Plesk version 7.0.3.

I have recently purchased a new server, running Plesk 8.1. I originally intended to migrate my data from the 7.0.3 system to the 8.1 system, but apparently they are not compatible for migration, and 8.1 will not use the 7.0.3 back up files either.

What can I do? I figure if I can get 7.0.3 to upgrade to 8.1 somehow, I will be able to perform a migration or a backup/restore.

So I guess what im asking is, is there a way to upgrade 7.0.3 to 8.1? Is there a better way to do this? It has been very frustrating, and im boggled as to why Plesk 8.1 can is capable of migrations from sources not made by Plesk, but they do not support migrations from previous versions of their own software.

any ideas?

Thanks - Shaun

I'm just about to do the same thing.
From what I understand (in the doccos) Plesk 7.0.3 needs to updated to 7.5.6 Before moving to 8.x.

hi there,
I have a Plesk 7.0.3 installation that needs to be updated (or reinstalled) to Plesk 8.1.

For test purposes I have installed plesk 8.1 on a test server. I can open and import the plesk 7.0.3 backup files without any (major) problems*.
You said 8.1 will not use the 7.0.3 backup files. What exactly happened, did you get an error message?

Thanks
Johannes

* Problems I found so far:
- Restore fails, if i map to a different IP-Address.
- Some Issues with ASP.NET websites, because ASP.NET runs under a different user. So I had to change to permissions.

Well in my scenario, I chose to go with the migration option.
The 8.1 migrator only talks to servers 7.5.6+. So naturally I had to upgrade my server & license from 7.0.3 before i could do the migration. However, The 7.5.6 Upgrader completely stuffed up my 7.0.3 installation. I had broken my raid prior to upgrade so I booted off the backup drive to my original 7.0.3 installation.

I then decided to try the psa backup/restore option. This worked almost perfectly, not everything restored (i.e. permissions). This is not documented anywhere that I can find but I can tell you Plesk 8.1 can restore 7.0.3 backups. It will allow you to remap ip addresses, domains & clients.
