Question Spam handling in spam folder

onki

Regular Pleskian
Hi,

I have a little problem understanding how the spam processor ( i guess SpamAssassin) works in am IMAP mailbox.
According to the Plesk UI the Spam filter is only "leraning" when the SPAM is moved to the spam folder.
To be honest I am not interested to see all my SPAM mails and I don't need to see them all in my spam folder.
Is the spam filter still learning when I select "delete Spam" and move the mails who came through to the spam folder or is it required to have the SPAM mails in the corresponding folder?
Is there a way to have them ticked as "read" by default to get rid of annoying new mail notifications on my mobile devices?

Best regards
Onki

Hi Onki,
if you select Delete all Spam, then if you do get spam, move it to your spam folder and SpamTrain (/opt/psa/admin/sbin/spamtrain) will be run during Plesk DailyMaintenance task, so it won't get through the next time.
You've set the Spam filter in Horde to enabled too?

Lloyd

You've set the Spam filter in Horde to enabled too?

Hi Lloyd,

Do you mean that the SPAM filter was enabled in the mail settings or do you talk about the service in general?
I am using the Magic Spam extension in addition but I think this is a different story.

Best regards

Hi Onki,
oh you're using Magic Spam, I haven't actually used it so I'm not sure what differences there may be.

But in Horde, you have a Spam filter, disabled by default...

Hover over Mail Tab > Filters

And of course Spam Reporting in...

Horde > User Prefs > Spam Reporting

But I don't see anyway to mark them as seen, I'm not sure that would be a good idea anyway.
Sorry I couldn't be more help
Regards

Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,

I will verify the settings this evening. I will try to set my mail account to "delete SPAM" and move all unwanted stuff to the spam folder. By checking the syslog file I can check if SpamTrain did the job to learn the messages from the SPAM folder. I guess this is just a CRON job.

Best regards
Onki
