  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.

The Plesk spam is creeping back in

After all the fuss surrounding SWSoft's self promotion spam in Plesk 8.0, and the eventual removal of some of the more blatant examples, it seems they are not getting the message that we don't want this in software that we pay for.

There are controls to remove some of these things now, if you can find them, but I still have to spend hours on a new install editing stylesheets to remove the top frame Virtuozzo advertising and hiding buttons like My Plesk and View Certificates with interface management.

My 8.2 server headers now say X-Powered-By: ASP.NET, PleskWin for some reason.

The first thing my new customers see when they log in is the news items, telling them how great Plesk is and inviting them to try Miva Merchant. We are shopping cart developers; we don't want Miva being pitched to our customers on our server. Nor, incidentally, do I want the barely literate message "Plesk News were closed" delivered if they close the news panel.

Yesterday I had a customer call who had been reading the help files (rare, but true) and had read all about going to MyPlesk.com to register his new domains, and couldn't understand where the buttons were. We've hidden them of course, but what's the point when the help files are full of advertising.

A couple of discreet copyright notices are fine, but beyond that the minds that spend their time developing new and innovative ways to advertise their products to my customers would be better employed improving the product. I also have other things to do .

Hi foghead,

I just wanted to say: I totally agree with you!

It just upsets me, how SWsoft seems to think it is no problem at all to advertise to me customers without my permission.

I hope we will not see any further atempts in this direction.
