  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Hello,

I was wondering if upgrading MSDE (included with Plesk) to SQL Server Express 2005 is a straightforward process.

I have several customers using databases and they are hitting the governor limit on MSDE so I want to upgrade to 2005 Express.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Upgrading to sql 2005 express is pretty straightforward.

I upgraded a month ago, no complaints from customers.

When upgrading you should choose "default instance" instead of new instance ".\SQLEXPRESS".

Good luck

As I just found out, it is best if you use the SQL 2005 Express Service pack1 distro, as there are a number of issues raised by upgrading the MSDE to SQL2005.

Specifically the msdb tables are not fully converted. The service pack corrects this and adds additional columns.

Without it, MS-SQL plays havoc with the scehduled backup on Plesk. It also prevents manual backing up, as it will fail when it reaches the first MS-SQL database.
