Where to change mySQL variables for client databases.

Hi, I'm running plesk with 25 wordpress sites on it. And the biggest site is now making problems. Checking the phpmyadmin runtime information suggested me (Watch this picture: http://screencast.com/t/s4y2sIYz4L1 ) to change some mysql variables like tmp_table_size and table_cache.

So I logged in through ssh and changed some variables in the /etc/mysql/my.cnf file and restarted mysql. ( I don't have a /etc/my.cnf file)

So far so good, but as you can see on this picture http://screencast.com/t/Lhs0UlkkjR that the "global" variables are changed but not for my clients site.

Is there a specific configuration file for client databases. I searched now for over 2 hours but did not find a solution.

Thanks, for any help.
