Account restore in new server without terminating old account ?

I am new to Plesk and am used to cPanel only. I have root access to 2 Plesk 7.x (Windows) servers. I want to move a domain account from one server to the other. I used the Plesk Backup Restore utilities for doing the same. So I created the backup file and when I tried restoring it in the other server, I came to know that it cannot be restored unless the account is terminated on the old server. But I need to restore the account in the new server and check if it is working fine or not before I change the nameservers or terminate the old account. So is there any workaround for this ?

hello arun!

well, you actually don't need to terminate the account in the server where the domain was. you can export the domain as a psa file using the backup utility, move it to the new server and then use the restore utility.

the domain will be active on both servers.

I do it quite often, when we have to migrate domains (waiting for migration manager).

what problem are you actually facing when restoring the domain?

see ya

I'm really sorrry for the mix up, it was a mistake on my part. The same user (not the domain) was already existing in the same (new) server, that the backup from the old server refused to resore. Sorry and thanks for the reply Pedro Padron !

I do have a follow up question now. After I restore the account/domain in the new server, I want to edit the DNS in the old server to point to the new server. Usually in cPanel, there is an option to edit the DNS by just changing the IP address and nameserver in the DNS page. But in Plesk's DNS setup page, I do not see any "Edit" option. Does that mean I have to delete a DNS record and then add a new DNS record to point to the new server ? Is that the correct procedure ? Anything else to keep in mind when forwarding the DNS from old server to new server ?

Hey Arun!

No problem, just click on the name of the record you want to change, and an edit page will be displayed.

You can also delete and create a new record. Both will work.

See ya!
