Question Add @ DNS Record

Hello,
how do I add an @ dns record? For example I want to add the DNS Record with Host: @example.com with the value: v=spf1 include:mail.example.com. I tried various solutions by leaving the domain filed blank, putting an * there etc. Somehow the software I use does not verify the records.

In the DNS setting for your domain you'll have to leave the "Domain name" field empty instead of using an @ symbol.

What software tries to verify what exactly? Are you aware that you are asked to create a TXT-record, not a CNAME or other type?
