Always problems when upgrading

Hi all,

Yesterday I attempted to upgrade from 8.3 to 8.4 and half way the upgrade terminated with an error.

I can never seem to upgrade plesk the proper way. It always fails through the gui updater but as well as through the command line updater.

I had the same issue updating from 8.1 to 8.3 a while back, and ended up using YUM UPDATE to update my plesk system.

8.4 is not yet available through a YUM UPDATE, but I think what needs to happen is a reinstall of plesk alltogether. My concern however is that the server I maintain is for a campus, and the entire campus as well as students and alumni use this server for email and web services.

If I remove PSA and reinstall PSA, how can I keep the configuration? There are a load of email accounts and so much web data for 20 different domains, as well as so many databases for those domains. (Most of the domains are redirects, so only several domains actually contain the data).

I would like my system to be able to do an update through the gui or autoinstaller in the console, and actually work.

Does anybody have any ideas as to how I shall solve this issue?

If you installed psa 8.3 previously (which it sounds like you did) it extracted the old RPMs (defaut is /root/psa or /root/swsoft) which you can go back into and force a reinstall of those RPMs to force a downgrade to 8.3

This is why you never upgrade the first two weeks the new CP is out, there are always breakages and bugs that their QA doesnt catch - if nothing else put up a test server and try that first.
