Apache hangs ... (Tomcat is causing this?)

Apache hangs from now and then, and it started happening a couple of days ago. Tech support tells me that he speculates that Tomcat might be causing this, but he doesn't know for sure. Since both Apache and Tomcat are a part of Plesk, I figured that this might be a good place to ask for help. The following is a part of a copy of my error_log. What is really causing this? Why does Apache hang? Why did this start a couple of days ago all of the sudden?

Actually your server has both 'tomcat' and 'tomcat4' installed by default. Plesk only needs the 'tomcat4' package, so if you and your clients are not using the regular tomcat, you can uninstall it from the server:

rpm -e tomcat

Q1. By looking at my log file, do you think that tomcat installation is causing the problem???

Q2. If so, uninstalling it can resolve this problem?

Do you have SiteBuilder installed, and if so, are you using it? (Just curious)

Looks like someone has installed the jakarta-tomcat package, so have you checked to make sure no clients are using tomcat (or jakarta)?

It may have been installed during a Plesk updater session. Some people just install everything on the list, even if it's not needed (or really wanted), and this may be why you are getting errors on tomcat/jakarta.

It does look as if that is the source of the errors. So again, is anyone on the server using tomcat (or jakarta)? If not, then I would recommend uninstalling them

rpm -e jakarta-tomcat-connectors tomcat

I have no idea what that it. How can I check to see if SiteBuilder is installed?

I am using it, and I have been using it ever since I started using the server. The problem of Apache's locking up(?) started exhibiting a couple of days ago. I don't think I've seen this particular problem before then.

Q1. I have been using Tomcat, but does this mean that I have been using Tomcat4 instead of Tomcat?

Q2. If so, do you still recommend that I uninstall Tomcat (and leave Tomcat4 as it is)?

No. If you are using Tomcat, then disregard my posts about uninstalling it. That's why I kept asking if you or any clients were using it.

From the part of the error log you posted, there is no other clear indication of why Apache would suddenly begin to hang, although you may want to find out about this:

[error] Cannot configure connection "ooen_net_Connection_ssl"

What other (even trivial) updates or software has been added or changed in the last few days?

The errors about the SSL certificate may be related since this error has to do with connection to SSL.

My host company presumably made some changes in the data center a couple of days ago. They said that this won't affect us at all, but who knows?

Q1. Suppose that changes made in the data center are related to this. How can I find out if these changes are related?

There is a file whose permission I set to 777, and I did this a couple of days ago.

Q2. can this be related? I have a couple of files whose permission is set to 777.

With regard to SSL, "I" did not make any change. Unless my host company did something, there was no change made in SSL. That's my guess.

Q3. Is Tomcat (its error) causing Apache to lock up?

Q4. If not, what can really cause Apache to lock up ...?

(Getting good uptime(99%++) is not easy ...)

Q5. Perhaps I can configure Apache to spit out many more error messages? So that I'll have a better idea of what's going on?
