Can I safely upgrade MariaDB from version 5.5 to 10.0 or 10.1?

Hello,
I recently setup a new CentOS 7.1 and Plesk 12. 5 as base software
but noticed that it came with (MariaDB) Ver 15.1 Distrib 5.5.44-MariaDB, for Linux (x86_64) using readline 5.1
so I was wondering if I could upgrade it to version 10 or 10.1

Time ago someone recommended this tutorial

You can try to upgrade MariaDB to 10.1 version on your own risk. Just notice that it is not supported officially - https://docs.plesk.com/release-notes/12.5/software-requirements/#s4-2-1
