• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

cannot access to alter file permissions

i have a major problem in all of the doain on my dedicated server:

multiple domains are unable to do various functions due to file permissions access issues:

When I looked into it on plesk I am unable to access and change the fle permissions as the user/group are shown as "apache/apache" or "root/root" and not under any admin login/user as the rest of the files in file manager are.

I have asked my server host and they say that they have no idea how to resolve this, or why it should happen.

How do i get around this problem and become able to change those file permissions again?

What is the reason of necessity for changing permissions of these files? What sort of files/directories for changing? Are you sure that it will not break Plesk functionality?

erm....

why would they break plesk functionality?

Its things like default.css in wordpress, of the index.html for a domain... just bog standard html files within the clients domains, nothing to do with plesk whatsoever.

Ok. But what is the reason of necessity for changing these default permissions of these files?

Having done some digging of my own:

This may be related to wordpress instalation via Plesk Panel.

Two of the domains with the locked file permissions had wordpress installed into them via the Plesk Panel.

It looks to me like Plesk has installed all files and changed permissions on all files and folders needed to instal wordpress - but it has done so using the root apache/root account/login.

And for whatever reason I now cannot change the permissions because of that being done under that account instead of the default amdin account (my logon).

Either way I really need an answer and some help with this issue as its been going on far too long now.

can i get some help on this please folks?

I am currently unable to do any work on these domains due to this issue and the lack of response is disturbing.

hello?

A solution please?????

Why can I not alter the default.css file of a theme in a wordpress instalation? WHy is its filepermissions unavailable to me as the administrator? Why is it under the usr/group apache/apache?
