CNAME Pointing at My Server - now what?

Hmmm... not sure how to handle this.

We have a domain installed on our server, it's got proper hosting etc., and it has a subdomain on it, set up as a proper subdomain (vs. setting up a new domain as the subdomain itself, like you had to do prior to this feature being added to Plesk)

Now, someone else wants to create a CNAME from their sub-domain (which is hosted at another ISP, having nothing to do with us) and point that CNAME at the subdomain on our server.

Example. whatever.someotherisp.com CNAME'd to point to mysubdomain.mypleskserver.com

Any suggestions?

I believe you can do it both ways:

setup whatever.someotherisp.com as a domain on your server, and ask the person to add that cname entry in their dns at the other server

setup someotherisp.com and setup the "whatever" subdomain

the important thing is that you have the entry on your DNS as "whatever.someotherisp.com" and have it hosted. both ways will work (i believe so)

Yeah indeed. Just create the domain in Plesk and have them create the CNAME record in the other ISP's DNS.

Ok, that sounds like the most reasonable idea.

One question then - would there be a problem if on this subdomain, an e-mail was generated by the localhost mail server to an address at that domain?

Wouldn't the mail server think it's local?

Just point the MX record to wherever the mail has got to go.
