Issue CPU suddenly runs at 100%

Troll2Jeux

New Pleskian
Hello,

Yesterday, a little before 11 am, our CPU’s server load suddenly skyrocketed at 100 % flat (around 50 % before) and stayed there since. We tried to restart the server, without effect unfortunately.
Spec of the server : VPS with Debian 10,11, Plesk Obsidian v18.0.39, 4Go RAM, Intel Core Processor (Haswell, no TSX)

The load’s increase is quite clear on the monitoring :

The source seems to be an increase of the php/apache activities :

What is strange is Plesk doesn’t seem to recognize the problem on the process list :

But we found multiple php-cgi running at the same time (SSH command ps -ef) :
(see textfile attached)

Does anyone knows what could have cause this problem (of course, we didn’t do any modification to the server at the time of the beginning of the incident!) and how we could resolve this issue ?

Cheers,

Victor

Check the fan.

Do you have lm-sensors or another hardware monitoring tool installed where you can see temperature and/or fan speed?

Well... Well well well.

It appears that one of my colleague installed some stupid stuff on our website without telling anyone.
He will be whipped until he forgets the admin password...

Sorry for bothering you, have a nice day !
