• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Does kaspersky protect the server or just the mailboxes

New Pleskian
Hi

I have just installed kaspersky v8 in plesk 11 and I have selected it to protect my mailboxes. However I am not sure if it is also protecting the server? Do I need another antivirus to protect the server?

thanks

As configured in a Plesk environment, Kaspersky only scans emails *as far as I'm aware*.

There's a KB for Plesk 10 (but probably the same for 11) http://kb.parallels.com/en/114313 relating to configuration changes you can manually make. I don't know if any of those might make it scan parts of the filesystem.

But to be honest, a typcial AV product will not protect your server from all the threats that a hosting server is likely to face. For example, one of the most common ways to compromise (in my experience) a system is using a web script vulnerability, and an AV product will typically do nothing to help you here.

So if you want to really protect and secure your system, you need to look at products that protect you in many ways at once.

We use ASL http://www.atomicorp.com/products/asl.html (no, I don't get a commission) and I strongly suggest you take a look at it.
