Enable PHP 5.3 support - rollback possible?

Hi,

I want to update my current PHP version (5.1.6) to 5.3 using Plesk as described in method 2: http://kb.parallels.com/en/111711

I'm not 100% sure if all scripts will work with 5.3 that's why I want to have an emergency plan. My question is: Is it possible to switch back from "PHP5.3 support" to "PHP5 support" safely? Will my old PHP version be re-installed?
