error_log problem

Hallo, I have plesk configurated that it should compress the logfiles (access_log, error_log) if they have 3000 KB. This works fine with access_log but the error_log file grows up to 50 MB.
Why? What could I do that the error_log do not grows up so high?

I believe that it only does this once per day, and if at that time it is larger then X size it will compress, I do not believe it is a real time monitoring of all domains files as that would take too much resources.
