I'm in the beginning stages of building my eshop, and I have a problem that I can't find any mention of elsewhere on the forums.
I am selling photographs, pendants, and other specialty items. When I add a new product, say, a photography print, I am asked what the price should be set at. The problem is that each size costs a different amount, and if the customer wants to have the item framed, that is an additional expense, along with a substantial difference in shipping cost.
What I see available on other websites, and what I need to do with mine, is to allow a customer to (for example) select an image, then select the size they want (with each size having a different price point), and then have the option of a frame available at an additional cost. Then, in the shopping cart, the final shipping cost would correlate to the overall cost of the selected options.
The only way that this can currently be done is to treat each offered size as an individual product, with the shipping cost of the item built into the cost of the item itself. Then I would also need to offer each frame style as an individual product, and treat each frame size as an individual product as well. So as it stands, instead of having 100 different images available in various forms (prints, pendants, greeting card sets, etc.) I will have to input and offer 3000+ individual products to reflect my full range of options.
This seems inefficient for customers, who won't want to wade through thousands of products to find the right combination of options, and inefficient for me because it will take me months just to get the products entered.
Is there a script or something that I can use to write over the options that are currently offered? Is there any way at all that I can make these essential changes? Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
