  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
    If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

help with domain name problems

Hello everyone,

I appreciate the work that the community puts into the forum here. I am a new plesk user and I have almost everything up and running, except for one thing:

My domain name is hosted on godaddy.com. I am using their DNS severs to point the domain name to my dedicated server's IP address. However, when you visit the domain (30secondweather.com) you cannot resolve the web server information. However, when you visit the IP address directly (http://173.203.194.191/) you can see the content.

Is there some setting I need to set so the website will resolve properly?

thanks!

Roy

Your domain 30SECONDWEATHER.COM is not resolvable now:

$ host 30secondweather.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

According whois output there are following nameservers for this domain:

$ whois 30secondweather.com | grep 'NS'
NS1.30SECONDWEATHER.COM
NS2.30SECONDWEATHER.COM

So, I think that you should correct DNS settings for this domain first. Do you have any A record for 30secondweather.com?

Thanks for taking a look for me Igor. This is my first time setting up the DNS on a purely self-managed server, hopefully I am close. Let me post my current settings:

This is the godaddy account. I have set up the nameserver in godaddy to point to the dedicated server IP address.

This is my rackspace cloud server account. I followed the instructions here:
http://cloudservers.rackspacecloud.com/index.php/DNS_-_Creating_a_DNS_Record

This is my plesk account, I have just added the domain name here.

Do you know which part of the process I am doing wrong? I feel like it is just a small step somewhere, but I don't know DNS enough to troubleshoot it.

thanks,

Roy

Domain still not resolvable. I'm not familiar with Godaddy and rackspace but I think you should contact their support team for correction your DNS settings for your domain.

With any registar, you need to register your DNS servers with them.

With my registars, there is a special page where you input the nameservers and IP addresses.

It will NOT work unless the nameserver is registered you get a circular name problem.

It appears to be set up properly at GoDaddy, but you should also need to add the ns records at Rackspace as well and that Wiki page is leading me to believe that might not be possible if that's where all of your DNS is controlled. It says at the bottom of the Wiki that you need to use dns1.stabletransit.com and dns2.stabletransit.com .
