How do i open 3306 for outside connections

Hi,

I have a client that wants to use navicat software, which connects to mysql remotley

How do i open/mysql to listn on port 3306

Is this all i need to do for anyone to access their database remotely

You'll have to check that the firewall isn't blocking port 3306 (you could close the port except for your client's IP address) and MySQL needs to allow remote access for the database user (can also be IP restricted), not just localhost.

Hi I tried the following line

iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT

ive nmap the server and the port still is not showing.

Do you use the Plesk firewall module? A hardware firewall? Any other firewall solution?

The firewall is disabled in plesk and the external firewall is also deactivated.

Not sure if there could be some other iptables somewhere, as im not sure where to look..

In the my.cnf I deleted skipnetworking and added

port = 3306

3306 is the default port, but yeah, skipnetworking might have been a problem. Probably something your host put in.

make sure your database user is configure to accept any host (represented by a "%" in phpmyadmin)under privledges

or a specific IP address if you want to be more secure about it.
