.htaccess on a subdomain

I have problems getting htaccess to work on subdomains. When I place .htaccess file in any folder on a subdomain it simply does not work and I don't get the username/password prompt??? :confused:
 
had the same problem...

try to chmod the subdomain direcory it's in to 751
 
Tried that, no good. It's not permissions because I tried 777 to make sure it wasn't something like that. As far as I can see, the ExecCGI directive under that virtual host is in place, weird!
