Incoming VERP messages rejected

For bounce processing, Mailman 2.1.5 sends messages of the style [email protected]. The messages are consistently rejected by the list processing host rather than processed by the bounce processor.

Messages to [email protected] work, message to [email protected] don't work.

What are suggestions to fix this. It looks like a qmail issue. However, qmail is supposed to handle the extensions.

What suggestions do you offer?
