• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

Issue Incremental backups - huge files

mailworm

New Pleskian
Dear community,

can anyone explain the following to me?

-Environment-
Backups: Daily
Use incremental backup: Yes
Full backup: monthly
...
Backup of: Domain configuration, Email configuration and content, User files and User databases
Save in: /var/lib/psa/dumps

-Backup file situation-
Full backup: 13.8 GB
1. Incremental backup: +10.2 GB
2. Incremental backup: +10.3 GB
3. Incremental backup: +10.5 GB
4. Incremental backup: +10.5 GB
5. Incremental backup: +10.4 GB
...

In total at the moment the backups use 328 GB of my servers harddrive.

Honestly I can not imagine, that every day obviously 75% (10.x GB of 13.8 GB) of the files undergo changes and require to be stored in the new incremental backup?!?

Any idea anyone?

Thank You,
Thomas

Hi, quite likely that your project includes large database. Can you check that?
Database is always backed up as a whole, unlike files it cannot be separated in unchanged and modified parts.

Maybe this is due to active changes in Emails content, attaches, user files and so on?
