  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Linux for hosting, Windows fo Email - Possible with Plesk?

Christopher McBride

Basic Pleskian
Hi,

I'm looking into the possibilty of using Plesk to administer two different servers.

One server to manage web hosting and emails on Linux, and the other to manage some (but not necessarily all) email accounts on Windows.

The reason being - I want to offer Exchange services to my clients, but would prefer to keep with Linux for hosting.

My ideal scenario would be that my current Linux server will stay as it is, and an additional lower powered Windows server would be purchased to handle my client's email accounts who choose to pay extra for the upgraded features.

The question is, is ths easily possible with Plesk?

I know there is the Plesk Expand product, but it is out of date and I don't even know if it can do what I'm looking for.

Anyone else offering/using such a system? Or know of another method to do this?

Any/all advice is appreciated!

But Plesk can't operate email accounts on Exchange.

Sorry, I never knew that! I had just assumed that Plesk integrated with Exchange.

That's my question answered then!

I suppose it's possible just by using Plesk to repoint the MX DNS records of a single domain to a stand-alone Exchange Server?

Quite "un-integrated" - but are there any other methods I should consider?

Thanks
