Local & Remote mail queues

What's the difference between the local and remote mail queue?

Basically, emails to be delivered locally, as in on your server, are sent to the local queue. Emails to be delivered to remote locations are stored in the remote queue. Here's a little reading on qmail:

Thanks I lot. I was mealy wondering how my server knew stuff was queued on other servers (remote queue).
