Mail problem: receiving bounce from mail we never sent and duplicate mails

Hi people

happy 2008!

I've recently been getting user complain that they have been receiving failure notices about mails they have not send and

mails they sent to people seems to be duplicated countless times.

I look at the mail log and I see the following repeated countless times:

warning: trouble opening remote

What should I do? I have restarted the mail service.. but is there anymore concrete things I can do, and what could be causing this anomaly?

That could be indicative of a spammer that has compromised the users desktop or their login.

I thought so too, but too many users from different domains are having this problem.
so i am just checking through.

Also.. if their recipients is having duplicated mail issues, it could be the mail-queue that is problematic... could it?

You can get that if you delete messages from the queue without restarting qmail

I didn't do that, until this problem came up...

so far... no other news yet... but should I rebuild the queue?
