OsCommerce Admin security

I have installed the OsCommerce from the Application Vault. It orks fine for the client, but I do not know how to use the admin panel.
When I select the http://<domainname>/oscommerce/admin I am required to type a password, which I suppose is the same as for the ftp, but it does not work.
Is there another way to administer the oscommerce package ?

I don't know for sure, but the username/password may not the FTP username/password.

Instead, it is either the default username/password for osCommerce (whatever they may be), or it was a password you chose then you installed osCommerce.

Until somebody who knows the answer for sure posts a difinifitve answer, why not try admin/password ?
Or better still, look in the oscommerce config file for the details of the mysql username/password, which may or may not be similar to the admin login username/password.

I just had this same problem, couldn't access the directory with the username/password I specified when setting up osCommerce. I ended up using the Web Directories icon in the domain control panel to navigate to the osCommerce directory, then clicked the Shield next to the admin directory, and changed the password for the user listed there. I could then log in with that username and the password I had just set.

Hope that helps.

First off some history so you dont think my advice is completely unfounded.

My name is clifton Murphy, and i own Hyperactive Inc. We are one of the largest OSC development companies in the US and we specialize in providing support and programming for oscommerce.

I wrote the linkpoint payment gateway for Oscommerce as well.

Advice----------
Dont use oscommerce. It fails miserably in search engines without the addition of at least 5 other add in modules.

Instead, I recommend OSCMAX. This version of oscommerce already has 40 modules pre-installed. Including things like the advanced administrator panel and multiple admin logins with levels.

This uses an admin table in the db to hold email address and password of the admin, as well as providing a nice login screen, it also offers lost password retrieval.

OSCMAX is also freeware. We have a demo for our customers up here, http://max.hyperactivehosting.com if you want to check it out.

admin panel here, http://max.hyperactivehosting.com/admin
username: [email protected]
password: admin

Do yourself a favor, increase your sales, and service, and offer OSCMAX, your customers will thank you later!
