Plesk backup doubles my local disk space usage when backing up to remote server

Seems that Plesk has to compile the backup thus doubling my needed disk space locally, before it will send those files to my remote server via FTP.

Anyone know of a work around for this? I'd rather not pay my web host for disk storage I only need briefly for backups.
