Protecting main Plesk login page

I would like to add an extra layer of security and protect the main login page for Plesk https://www.domain.com:8443 with .htaccess. Can this be done? I tried without success. Just does not see the file. I know I can protect the login via IP but that would not be a good option.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
