Qmail and Spamassassin

Hi everyone,
I had problems in a server I administer for a long time.

It used to hang, quite often, and I couldn't find the cause. Sometimes it would stay up for many days, other times it would hand evey other day.

I have reviewed the logs many times - without finding the problem.

I have always tought that was related to the mail - because I have seen that a number of times the mail would not be available but the webserver would work.

Yesterday I have been looking again at the problem. I'm not sure if I found THE problem, but I found A problem.

When looking at the maillog the previous times, I used to exclude (grep -v spam) the lines related to the spamassassin - to concentrate on qmail and on the imap daemon.

That was a bad idea. The version of spamassassin that I had had several bugs. The one that I have now installed is giving problems too.

I'm not suggesting any special solution - but just suggesting that if you think you have problems with your qmail, you should look at spamassassin too.

I'll post more information if and when I manage to solve all the spamassassin problems that I'm finding (I've not finished yet).

Andres
