  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Resolved Qmail Cannot Receive Mail: Sorry,_no_mailbox_here_by_that_name._(#5.1.1)

DaveDoesStuff

New Pleskian
Hi all, any help on this would be appreciated. I've been at it for 5+ hours and I'm ready to tear my hair out.

My version of plesk is 17.5.3 Update #45

Basically I was having an issue with postfix not being able to send or receive mail (the virtual.db issue where it says the mailbox doesn't exist) so I decided to remove all mail functions and reinstall using Qmail instead of postfix. While I am able to send mail with Qmail (DKIM/SPF and DMARC all work too) I am unable to receive mail.

If I send from a gmail.com address or another address from the same domain the local delivery fails with a "Sorry,_no_mailbox_here_by_that_name._(#5.1.1)" error. Then when it tries to send the bounce message back to the remote that also fails.

Here are the logs:

I've checked the DNS with mxtoolbox and everything checks out, here are the results.

Here is a screenshot from my nameserver provider: https://imgur.com/a/VaAn2

I've also run # plesk repair mail and # /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mchk but neither helped. I've done multiple removals of qmail, dovecot and roundcube and reinstalled them to no avail.

Does anybody have any clue at all how to fix this?

Sorry for the rant, thanks for listening! :)

EDIT: Added screenshot from domain hosts DNS panel.

Igor my dude, where have you been all my life? Your an absolute hero! Thank you :)

The issue is now fixed, if anyone finds this thread from google I'll summarise the fix from the other thread below:

If you cannot send or receive email from a domain that you have a webspace set up for in plesk, and that same domain is also the plesk "full hostname" found in Plesk > Tools & Settings > Server Settings, then change that full hostname to be a subdomain like s1.yourdomain.com (don't forget the corresponding DNS entry with your domain host). By doing this your problem will be solved.

My understanding is that basically the "full hostname" should be a unique fully qualified domain or sub domain only used by the plesk server. By using the standard domain "yourdomain.com" you create conflicts within plesk such as with qmail or postfix.
Hopefully I didn't elaborate on that too badly and it helps someone, thanks again Igor!
