Qmail SMTP 4.4.1 deferral

Qmail seems to have selected verizon.net as a place it will not send emails to. This is the log entry :

delivery 6: deferral: Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)/

Seems to only affect verizon so far, so can some good person set me off in the right direction
