Reverse dns for mail server

Hi

Looking like we need reverse dns on some of our mail accounts. How is this set up? Just for the server or for each domain?

Thanks

It is effectively just for the server.

You would normally need to contact your ISP (or whoever you get your co lo, or lease or sent your server from) in order to arrange this. It isn't something you do on your server yourself.

If you have more than one IP address, ideally you should get them to add a reverse DNS record for each of them. However, only the IP address that your server sends email from is the important one. If I remember correctly, this is the first IP address on the highest numbered Ethernet adapter (if you have more than one Ethernet adapter that is).

You can use www.dnsstuff.com to check if you have reverse DNS configured for the particular IP.

Faris.
