rollback to previous config

I am having trouble (site is down) after I tried to change the password on a database. I changed the pswrd in the gui control panel thinking I just need to update the new pswrd change in the config.php file. I could not find the file and after doing some queries I realized I needed to access the /conf directory which is un-accessible.

What do I need to to do? Failure, to do so can I roll back to a previous configuration?
