• Please be aware: Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been deprecated
With the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.64, "Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Servers" will be automatically removed from the servers it is installed on. We recommend that you migrate to Sophos Anti-Virus for Servers.
  • The Horde webmail has been deprecated. Its complete removal is scheduled for April 2025. For details and recommended actions, see the Feature and Deprecation Plan.
  • We’re working on enhancing the Monitoring feature in Plesk, and we could really use your expertise! If you’re open to sharing your experiences with server and website monitoring or providing feedback, we’d love to have a one-hour online meeting with you.

Question Server version: 5.5.56 MariaDB is old version?

Hajime Tanaka

Regular Pleskian
I've seen cPanel never feature for MariaDB 5.5.56, Only cPanel supported 10.X and MySQL 5.6, 5.7.

Plesk doesn't have an upgrade and downgrade from MySQL, MariaDB version.

MariaDB 5.5.56 is old isn't? 10.X is the newer version, I needed for that.

MariaDB 5.5 was released in 2012, but still receive security updates.

MariaDB & MySQL upgrade tutorials are available in the Plesk knowledgebase : How to upgrade MySQL 5.5 to 5.6/5.7 or MariaDB 5.5 to 10.0/10.1/10.2 on Linux
The only upgrade not possible is from MySQL 5.7 to MariaDB 10.1.

But the easiest solution to use the latest MariaDB release is to install it before Plesk.

1. Which is recommend use version of MySQL 5.6 or 5.7 or MariaDB 10.0, 10.1?

2. The first backup for snapshots then upgrade MariaDB 10.1 right? But we already installed Plesk panel and site is running up.

The choice is yours between the two. In general, you'll see better performance with MariaDB. It does, however, depend on your situation if the performance difference is even noticeable. You do want to be sure to take a full server backup if you're planing to go from MySQL to MariaDB.
