  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Setup Issues

I am trying out Plesk on a Ubuntu Linux box. Although I've used plesk before it has always been on the client side. I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 and have install plesk, however my issue is setting it up so I can access it over the internet. I am hosting this on a personal web server box that I have set up on my normal home internet connection which is behind a router. The router is assigned my ip address and I have set static IP address on my box which is 192.168.1.110.

So I have my domain name which is hosted with Godaddy pointing to my cable modem ip address. The router points anything coming in on 80, 21 and 8443 to the 192.168.1.110 address.

How do I set plesk up so that I can access my site from the internet?

I went in and set up DNS on plesk but wasn't sure if I need to use the 192.168.1.110 or my cable modems ip address.

Any help would be appreciated

Tom

You must always use WAN IPs in your plesk DNS and set up as the internal IP is only good for your LAN.

You will have to forward more ports for email and FTP 21 and 20 are needed (20 is control port).

I suggest you get another IP WAN from your ISP and then DMZ the entire IP to your server.

I do similar hosting, except I have got a 32 block of IPs routed. Honestly your much better DMZ as for a fully functioning site you have to allow DNS, IMAP, http, https, SMTP, smtps, FTP, ssh, and plesk licensing as well as 8443.

Don't forget to point your DNS at your registar to the DNS on your plesk as plesk must control DNS.
