Small permissions problem

hi all,

I am trying to instal Joomla on my VPS server.

I can't execute anything inside my httpdocs directory due to "directory is non-writable". But I have set my permissions to 775.

I then tried to instal Joomla from the "Applications" menu, and although I can preview the site ok, no CSS is loaded, I get only text.

Is there something I am doing wrong?
